Cricket wicket-keeper, or catcher? The shin guards certainly predate Roger Bresnahan’s use in baseball.

Sharp-eyed indeed. The Metropolitan Museum, where this card resides, labels it as either one or the other, so I granted myself poetic license. But, just between us, you are certainly correct. Gloria Cigarettes, while an American Tobacco brand, was based in Montreal.

Getting words from you, John, is like getting a bat signed by Hank Aaron. A pair of long gloves, over the sleeves, was another giveaway. “BB in the Garden of Eden” is my all-time favorite baseball book. Keep up the good work on the blog!
